Calculating the Calories Needed Per Day

The 2,000 calorie per day is quite popular and those who call themselves calorie conscious are following this diet regimen in order to maintain their weight. However, there is really no specific number of calories to consume because it varies from one person to another. Your activity level and your current weight will be some of the determining factors for the number of calories needed per day.

The caloric intake requirements of a person should be regularly calculated with the fluctuations in the activity levels and weight in mind.

Actually, calculating the calories needed per day is not really that difficult like what others thought. There is an equation that one can use when it comes to computing for the ideal caloric consumption of an individual.

For males who are quite active, the number of calories needed can be determined by multiplying the weight in pounds by 15. On the other hand, females who are active will multiply their weight in pounds by 12. For those males who have lower activity levels, the weight in pounds should be multiplied by 13; while inactive females will multiply their weight in pounds by 10.

With this formula, you'd be able to determine the amount of calories that you need per day in order to maintain your body weight. If you have consumed more calories than the ideal, you should make an effort to learn how to burn calories effectively.

Why Drinking Water is Essential

Believe it or not, drinking water can help in your weight loss efforts. Water can help in decreasing one’s appetite. In effect, it can help in cutting down your caloric consumption.

In general, people find it difficult to distinguish their hunger from thirst because these two have a single control center in the brain. Hence, it would be a good idea to drink water first then wait for twenty to thirty minutes to see if you are still hungry.

Nowadays, a lot of people are drinking other beverages than just drinking plain water. Sodas, energy drinks, coffee, and other beverages are often preferred than a regular glass of water. Apparently, most of these beverages contain caffeine which promotes diuresis leaving a person to become dehydrated. People of all ages whether a child or an elderly need to drink water every day in order to function normally.

Without water, the body becomes dehydrated and it will cease functioning normally. Water makes up 75% of the body weight and a person will not be able to survive without having water for a few days. Every cell that makes up the body needs water to work properly and depriving them of water will make them less functional.

Because water is important, a lot of people are wondering how much water is enough. The recommended intake of water would be seven to eight glasses per day but that is just an approximation. The amount of water that you will drink would still depend on the activities that you are doing for the day. For example, if you are an active person and you are working out regularly, then you may need more water because you lose it as you sweat. Those who are exposed to warm weather especially while exercising or playing sports may also need more water.

Without adequate supply of water, you will be dehydrated. Dehydration can prevent you from functioning normally and the worst case of dehydration can land you to a hospital. In order to prevent being dehydration, it would be best to have a bottle of plain water with you all the time. Water will not only prevent dehydration but it can also help you to lose weight effectively.
